Hi everyone, this week’s post is a short poem (of sorts) of mine from my youth when the creative juices flew in every direction. For the animal lovers out there, this one could be one that appeals to you!! Click the button below to find out more…
So, a little backstory on this piece. I found this really cool picture of a tiger with his cub in the newspaper and it inspired the words that flowed. Sadly, the image I kept has long since parted way with the poem so I had to trawl through Google to find a similar one. I hope you forgive me for writing about tigers and their prey, but this was a time of my life when the natural world fascinated me and obviously had an influence on my writing. Hope you enjoy..

“On the watch…”
“Oh come on!...Let’s play with the snowflakes like yesterday! Daddy you promised!” whines the eager young tiger cub, wiggling his way to the top of his majestically still father.
“Hush… junior. It is my time to be on watch,” he replies softly, unblinking while the snowflakes dance merrily in front and float down.
If you come closer you can see the flicker of movement from his ears as he listens intently For that one lonely dear he saw moving a while ago.
This majestic beast, if encountered in the deep forests of Asia, is truly a remarkable feat of nature. As his bright orange fur and dark stripes allow him to blend into the surrounding foliage, this mighty cat moves stealthily, silently towards his prey.
There, behind the ferns, the innocent deer drinks from the tiger’s secretly hidden pond.
Before the blink of an eye, he pounces on his prey and breaks its neck.
As night falls, junior is seen playing with his share of dinner.
