Hi everyone, this week’s review post is about an intriguing little story that caught my eye a while back. I’m including photography as an art-form in this month’s reads as it takes quite a fair bit of skill to master and create images. This story takes readers on a journey into one young girl’s life behind the lens…

Title: Worth a Thousand Words

What this book is about: Ever since a car accident left Tillie Green with lasting painful injuries, she’s hidden behind her camera. She watches her family and classmates through her lens, tracking down misplaced items and spotting the small details that tell a much bigger story than people usually see. But she isn’t prepared for Jake Hausmann’s request: to find his father. In a matter of days, Tillie goes from silent observer to one half of a detective duo, searching for clues on the mystery of Jake’s dad’s disappearance. When the truth isn’t what Jake wants it to be, and the photographs start exposing people’s secrets, Tillie has to decide what – and who – is truly important to her.
My review: Although a bit intriguing, this was overall a really lovely story!! From the beginning I liked Tillie a lot. Coping with a severe injury, she’s traversing middle school when she’s asked to find a ‘lost father.’ What follows is a wild journey across their town and into the lives of two sleuthing middle schoolers!! I truly enjoyed this read so much I completed it in one day!! Jake and Tillie make a dynamic duo but eventually when the truth does come out it strains their new formed friendship. There are some hilarious scenes mixed in with some quite serious and scary ones!! Tillie is a smart and courageous young girl who, although hiding behind her camera lens, finds her inner self once she steps away from it. A great story of family and friendship for all ages!!
