Hi everyone, welcome to this first post for August! The title I selected for this week I read a few years ago but the simple story and quirky characters still remain in my memories. This was one of the first few family stories that I truly enjoyed and haven’t found a similar story to match the qualities of this book! So, why not give this title a try!!

Title: A Boy called Hope
Author: Lara Williamson
Publication details: Usborne; London; 2014
ISBN: 9781409570318
What this book is about: “I’m Dan Hope, and deep inside my head I keep a lot of things I want to come true. For example, I want my sister, Ninja Grace, to go to university at the North Pole, and only come back once a year. I want to help Sherlock Holmes solve his most daring mystery yet. And if it could be a zombie mystery, all the more exciting. I want to be the first 11-year-old to land on the moon. I want my dog to stop eating the planet and throwing them up on the carpet. And finally, the biggest dream of all, I want my dad to love me.”
My review: What an amazing and extraordinary story!! I cried and laughed so much reading this book!! Dan Hope is such a lovable and realistic character. All his hopes and dreams are of his dad showing up and saying he loves him. This debut novel by Lara Williamson tackles a story of the effects a marriage break-up has on a young child and her storytelling is quite exquisite to say the least. A funny, brave and beautiful story of a family in all its shapes and sizes!! If you like quirky family stories, then this should be your next read!!
