An interesting twist on dystopian fiction

Hi everyone, this week’s review post is about an intriguing set of books I found by an amazing author. If you are someone who enjoys dystopian fiction with an extra tingle to it, why not try these tween reads to get yourself immersed into this amazing genre!!

The Firefly Code books

Titles: The Firefly Code, The Daybreak Bond

Author: Megan Frazer Blakemore

Genre: Fiction – SciFi/Dystopian

Publication details: Bloomsbury Children’s Books; NY, 2016 + 2018

What these books are about: Mori and her friends have grown up on Firefly Lane in their utopian community of Old Harmonie. In their sheltered, ordered, and forward-thinking world; cutting edge-medical advances and genetic enhancements are part of their daily lives. The children have never had to question anything until a new girl named Ilana moves into the neighbourhood. Ilana is beautiful, smart, graceful, almost perfect. These two books takes us into the journey these five friends find themselves taking and questioning what it means to be human and a true friend.

My review: Such beautifully written stories, both of them!! Megan Frazer Blakemore took me deep into the utopian society of Kritopia and bewitched me into believing I lived there with her storytelling!! I truly enjoyed my journey alongside Mori and her friends as I read of their action-packed adventures both inside and outside of Old Harmonie. I enjoy these types of dystopian reads as they make me think of the world I live in today and the decisions and choices that I have made. To me, these reads show me more of human nature than most others. Some awesome description and dialogue in both reads!! Great for all ages!!

My rating: 5 ⭐
