What this book is about: Grave robbing is messy business – a bad business. And on one unremarkable spring night in London, it became very spooky for Thomas Marsden. The unmarked grave he had been digging into revealed a boy the spitting image of Thomas himself. This is only the first clue that something very strange was happening. Others follow and lead Thomas into a strange world of spiritualists, death, and a faery folk: faery folk with whom Thomas’ life was bizarrely linked. Desperate to discover the truth about himself and his beginnings, Thomas discovers magic, and ritual, and that sometimes, just sometimes, the things that make a boy ordinary are what makes him extraordinary.

My review: A story of magic, of faery folk and Victorian London. Reminded me a bit of Jonathan Auxier’s The night gardener. This Gothic fantasy mystery trapped me in a world of fae like no other. To say the descriptions were brilliant would be an understatement. The pace and style that Trevayane used to trap me into this world was just amazing. I have to be honest though, I really wish now I’d read this during daylight hours as it scared me at night!! Loved the characters and storyline in this read, despite the nightmares!! A really good one for tweens who enjoy some darkness in their reads!!

My rating: 4 ⭐
