What this book is about: With her parents travelling the globe, Lenora is bored stiff until she discovers the secret doorway into the ultimate library. Mazelike and reality-bending, the marvellous library contains all the universe’s wisdom on its endless shelves. And Lenora becomes its newly appointed Fourth Assistant Apprentice Librarian. She rockets to the stars and faces down a dark nothingness that wants to destroy all knowledge. To save the library, Lenora will have to test her limits and uncover secrets hidden among its shelves.

My review: What a delightful read this was!! Set in a fantasy world of space, robots and mind-bending marvels, we’re taken into a cavernous library that holds all the wisdom in the universe. Following in young Lenora’s footsteps we’re thrust into giant-sized problems that library customers need answered while battling an evil force that seeks to extinguish the light of knowledge that only a library gives. I’ve never read something quite like this before. Peppered with all things libraries and literary I was crying and laughing at the same time. I’d never felt so alive in a book before!!

What I really liked was the oath that Lenora takes to being a librarian:

  • I swear to work hard, to venture forth bravely and find the answer to any question no matter the challenge.
  • I swear to find a path for those who are lost, and to improvise and think on my feet and rely on my wits and valor.
  • I swear to oppose the enemies of knowledge with all my courage and strength, wherever they might be found.

My rating: 5 ⭐

And then after a few days I found the sequel and devoured it in two days….

Genre: Fiction – contemporary/fantasy

What this book is about: Lenora has returned to the other-worldly Library – which holds every book ever known on its shelves. But she discovers the Library is under new management, it’s incredible rooms and corridors turned dark and sinister. She quickly connects with a secret resistance that’s trying to free knowledge from the shadows threatening it. Her new friends introduce her to an ancient lost city, hang gliding, and mathematical beings larger than the universe itself. And they help face the mysterious Board of new leaders – who must be stopped from leading the Library into darkness.

My review: The following story of young Lenora’s adventure in the fantasy world of the Library which houses all the books ever made along with beings from other dimensions. I just loved this story!! Everything a librarian desires: finding answers to patron’s questions while going on awesome and exciting adventures through space and time. Lenora makes some new friends as she battles the forces of evil and has a somewhat good ending!! With both books I found myself learning some fascinating facts about our world as well as library related things!! This would make an awesome anime movie!!

My rating: 5 ⭐
