Hi and welcome to this first post for May!! I thought I’d start with one of New Zealand’s famous children’s authors, Joy Cowley. This book that I have reviewed here is one she had published a few years ago about a Kiwi family. I won’t be giving you too much detail about this book as I would like you to read it for yourself first. Hope this appeals to you!!

Title: Speed of light
Author: Joy Cowley
Genre: Fiction – contemporary
Publication details: Gecko Press; Wellington, NZ, 2014
ISBN: 9781877579931
What this book is about: With a father more interested in money than family, a brother in prison, a sister with a secret, and a mother in denial, it’s no wonder Jeff buries himself in the safe world of mathematics. When a storm hits Wellington, a strange old woman is blown into Jeff’s life, challenging everything he thinks is true.
My review: I hadn’t read much of Joy Cowley’s junior fiction before I read this. I was pleasantly surprised at how she engaged the reader (me!!) and kept me wanting to find out what happened next. What I loved the most was how real she had made the characters feel. An awesome storyline and plot. Had a few laughs and many tears!! Would recommend her books to all ages!!
My rating: 4 ⭐
