Sure signs of crazy by Karen Harrington

Hi everyone, I am starting this post on the assumption that everyone has either read the book To Kill a Mockingbird by renowned author Harper Lee or watched the movie with dreamy-eyed Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch. If you haven’t, I suggest you go find the book or movie and get that out of the way first!! If you already have, then that’s awesome!! Onwards then my fine friend..

What this book is about: Sarah Nelson isn’t your average twelve-year-old. While her friends obsess over Harry Potter, she spends her time writing letters to Atticus Finch. She collects words in her diary. And she’s never known her mother, who left Sarah when she was two. Since then, Sarah and her dad have moved around Texas, from one town to another, and not one has felt like home. When Sarah launches an investigation into her family’s Big Secret everything changes. Along the way she makes new friends, has her first real crush, and her summer just might turn out to be extraordinary.

My review: You know you’re a true geek when descriptions of book characters sound more like friends!! I loved this story so much I cried through at least 85% of it!! Young Sarah is a feisty and courageous young girl and I hoped so much for a happy ending for her, but the ending of this book was unexpected. At times tender and funny, this beautifully written engaging story is great for all readers!! The perfect read to follow on for fan’s of R.J. Palacio’s Wonder.

My rating: 5⭐

Additional notes: This title has won the Bank Street CBC Best Children’s Book of the Year award in 2014, the Young Hoosier Book Award in 2015, and nominated for the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children’s Book Award in 2015.

One more little note: The ISBN’s for this month are of the books I had read sometime back. I’m pretty sure most of them are available as ebooks somewhere, so if you are still in lockdown/quarantine, make sure to read the ebook edition and pass on any comments or any of the titles you’ve been reading!!
