Hello all, today I wanted to share with you all what prompted me to write the theme for this month. It was actually not long after visiting the museum and seeing their ‘Gallipoli: a scale of war’ exhibit and celebrating the following Anzac day. Continue reading “My collection”

War Horse by Michael Morpurgo
Hello all to this new month of November!
So, like I said in my introduction post, I will be featuring tween books on World War One this month. The book I have chosen for my first post is one of the most well-known children’s books describing the Great War and its impact on the people and animals who lived back then. If you enjoyed watching War Horse the movie and National Theatre production, then you will surely love the children’s book it was based on. Continue reading “War Horse by Michael Morpurgo”
We will remember this November
Hello and welcome to November!!
Most places around the world will be welcoming autumn or fall but down here in New Zealand we welcome spring weather. The titles for this month are not season-related though. Instead I will be featuring tween titles that centre on World War One or the ‘Great War,’ as it was called back then. Continue reading “We will remember this November”

The cabinet of curiosities: 36 tales brief and sinister by Stefan Bachmann
Hi everyone, I hope you all are enjoying this little journey through the dark and twisted side of tween fiction reads. If you liked the last two weeks’ posts then you might enjoy this week’s one. It’s not just about one story, this delightful book I found is a compilation of short stories, all set to the tune of horror. And truth be told, not for the faint of heart either!! Continue reading “The cabinet of curiosities: 36 tales brief and sinister by Stefan Bachmann”
The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier
Hi all, this week I have a slightly different book reviewed. It’s still in line with the theme of horror but is set in Victorian times, so has a bit of an historical flavour to it. I won’t be giving much away but I think the title speaks for itself. Continue reading “The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier”
A Haunted Mystery series by Chris Grabenstein

My view on adventure reads.
So this week I felt like writing an extra post to tell you a little bit about how I got into Tween reads to begin with. It all started while I was waiting for a bus one winter evening, reading the first few chapters of ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone. I had started Chapter 4 when my bus came. I decided to stop and start when I got home. I read the rest of it through the night. Fell asleep around midnight!! The book had literally grabbed me by my collar and dragged me into its depths. I was hooked. Needless to say, I devoured the whole series in due course. And the rest, well, my appetite for adventure reads had taken root and every single adventure-themed tween book that came my way made it’s journey towards this day. Harry Potter was the first of many. Discovering Rick Riordan’s series of books recently has been a blast.
