Hello everyone, I hope you aren’t too upset over the last post. The loss of a mother at any age can be traumatic and unbearably sad. I had read Margot & me after I read quite a few books on losing a mother to an illness of some kind, and in each one, the young daughter’s emotions and experiences are similar. I hope you like these few I found on this theme. Be prepared with tissues! Continue reading “A few extra reads”

Margot & me by Juno Dawson
Hi everyone, March is days away from ending! It’s so crazy how quickly time flies these days!! Which brings me to this last title, a teen read to end the month, about a teenage daughter and her relationship with her mother and grandmother. We have two generations of daughters in this book, filled with layers upon layers. I hope it sparks the same emotions in you as it did for me. Continue reading “Margot & me by Juno Dawson”
Blackbird Fly by Erin Entrada Kelly
Hello everyone, this week’s post is about a book I found quite interesting and made me think of one’s identity. The story is about one young Filipino girl and her relationship with her mother. Although it’s set in small town America, the flavors of the Philippines is quite strong. So, if you want to read a story with a difference, try this one. Continue reading “Blackbird Fly by Erin Entrada Kelly”

The Emergency Zoo by Miriam Halahmy
Hi everyone, this final week of February features a tween read with more than one animal as the main lead character. I must confess, I think I prefer stories about zoos, wildlife parks and menageries than single pets. With stories like these you get a broad range of characters, both human and animal. So, if you enjoy historical fiction with some strong characters, both animal and human, have a read of this post. Continue reading “The Emergency Zoo by Miriam Halahmy”
Star in the storm by Joan Hiatt Harlow
Hey there, the location of this next book is definitely a place to visit, especially if you’re sweltering in the New Zealand heat! This particular book is set in Newfoundland at the turn of the twentieth century and features a rather large and imposing figure of a dog. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did!! Continue reading “Star in the storm by Joan Hiatt Harlow”
The Wolf Keepers by Elise Broach
Hi there, this second week’s post is about a different species of animal; more like a group of wild animals. If you thought zoo, then you are right! And it’s a story with some historical inspiration too! If both these have piqued your interest, then sit back and enjoy this post! Continue reading “The Wolf Keepers by Elise Broach”
