Hello all, this week I will feature a lovely series of books I found in our library. The main character this time is a young girl who lived in the English countryside and how the Great War affected her life and those around her. I hope you enjoy these – make sure you keep yourself well stocked with tissues for these books! Continue reading “Ellie’s War series by Emily Sharratt”

The Anzac Violin by Jennifer Beck
Hi there, this second week I wanted to review a delightful book that came across my path whilst working one day. It’s a sophisticated picture book or graphic novel type read rather than a normal tween read but I thought it deserved to be highlighted. This delightful read is about a young soldier who travelled from New Zealand and found himself in Gallipoli and is actually based on a true story. I hope readers will feel the tug at their heartstrings as mine did!! Continue reading “The Anzac Violin by Jennifer Beck”
War Horse by Michael Morpurgo
Hello all to this new month of November!
So, like I said in my introduction post, I will be featuring tween books on World War One this month. The book I have chosen for my first post is one of the most well-known children’s books describing the Great War and its impact on the people and animals who lived back then. If you enjoyed watching War Horse the movie and National Theatre production, then you will surely love the children’s book it was based on. Continue reading “War Horse by Michael Morpurgo”
We will remember this November
Hello and welcome to November!!
Most places around the world will be welcoming autumn or fall but down here in New Zealand we welcome spring weather. The titles for this month are not season-related though. Instead I will be featuring tween titles that centre on World War One or the ‘Great War,’ as it was called back then. Continue reading “We will remember this November”
Seven spooky stories to sink your teeth into!
Hi everyone, welcome to the last week of October!!
If you enjoyed the last four weeks of horror, then this last one will be a bit tamer. Today you will get a selection of the many ghost stories I have read so far. The seven titles reviewed today spoke to me in one way or another. No, not through a crystal ball, from their pages!! Continue reading “Seven spooky stories to sink your teeth into!”
The girl who wasn’t there by Karen McCombie
Hi there, so today’s post will be about a classic ghost story, nothing too scary. It’s a lovely read about a young girl and her adventures with the friend she makes. Fans of school-ghost stories will enjoy this book. Continue reading “The girl who wasn’t there by Karen McCombie”
The cabinet of curiosities: 36 tales brief and sinister by Stefan Bachmann
Hi everyone, I hope you all are enjoying this little journey through the dark and twisted side of tween fiction reads. If you liked the last two weeks’ posts then you might enjoy this week’s one. It’s not just about one story, this delightful book I found is a compilation of short stories, all set to the tune of horror. And truth be told, not for the faint of heart either!! Continue reading “The cabinet of curiosities: 36 tales brief and sinister by Stefan Bachmann”
The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier
Hi all, this week I have a slightly different book reviewed. It’s still in line with the theme of horror but is set in Victorian times, so has a bit of an historical flavour to it. I won’t be giving much away but I think the title speaks for itself. Continue reading “The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier”
A Haunted Mystery series by Chris Grabenstein
Hi there, welcome to this month of ghosts, creepy crawlies and everything horror!! This first post features an entertaining set of books by best-selling Chris Grabenstein on ghosts and ghouls! Spoiler Alert: If you are not a fan of horror, mystery and gore, best to avoid this one, as it has them all mixed in with a decent dosage of humour.
