Mind over medicine by Lissa Rankin M.D.

Hi everyone, this week’s post is another adult non-fiction read that had a profound impact on both myself and my mother. My mother has even recommended it to many people over the last few years and we believe it has served them the same way it did for us; in being an inspirational read. I hope you find it the same…

Special heroes this September

Hello all to the spring month of September!

This month’s posts feature books about young heroes. Not your typical comic book superheroes or those who save the world from mythical monsters or evil secret societies. These are young kids who have overcome some sort of illness, medical condition, or are living with a form of disability. I chose this topic for an extremely personal reason this month.

The Insulin Express by Oren Liebermann

Hi all, this last title caught my eye some months ago as it had the words ‘travel’ and ‘diabetes’ in the description. I felt myself drawn to it as diabetes runs in my own family and as a result I find myself thinking twice about the things I eat and my lifestyle. Although I have my own raft of health issues; they become quite insignificant compared to the trials faced by the author of this book. So, if you or someone you know is facing a serious illness, have a read of this memoir if you need some inspiration.
